Southern Italy's flavors, rooted in New Haven since 1994

Southern Italy's flavors, rooted in New Haven since 1994

Welcome to Caffe Bravo, an East Rock community favorite since 1994. Founded by John and Mary Lou DiPaola, Caffe Bravo started as the area's first gourmet Italian deli and market on Orange Street. John, hailing from Amorosi, Italy, brought his authentic Italian roots to East Rock, delighting New Haven residents with fresh panini, stromboli, pizza, and other Italian delicacies.
How it started

How it started

As time passed, we noticed a growing preference for table service. In 2002, Caffe Bravo transformed into north Orange Street's first full-service Italian restaurant. The legacy continued in 2014 when John and Mary Lou's son, Mark, assumed management of the restaurant. Mark successfully navigated Caffe Bravo through seven years of growth, and even the challenges of the pandemic in 2020.

In 2021, we welcomed new partners, Giovanni Morra and Stacey Porrello, who joined the Caffe Bravo team as full business operators and partners. Giovanni, a native of Naples, brings his passion for cooking and traditional Neapolitan upbringing to Caffe Bravo, adding his unique touch to the menu. Stacey has been a part of the Caffe Bravo family since the late 1990s, serving in various front-of-house roles.
